Blue Green Algae

Every year we do have some algae in the water at QM but this year after a long warm spell of weather it has lasted longer and spread further than normal. From time to time this has meant that we have switched racing to the East Side. Contact with blue green algae (and particularly any surface scum) can result in skin irritations and upset stomachs so we would strongly recommend that all members and visitors pay extra attention to showering after sailing, washing hands before eating and rinsing all sailing clothing you have been wearing. This week (16th August) the algae is much less in evidence and we have no scum around the west side shore which we had earlier in the month. We have had no reported instances of illness at all so far from the algae
