This Saturday 30th November
...is the last of the fortnightly Saturday Club meetings that we have planned for the year, so we would like to do something different if the weather will co-operate.
If the wind is not too strong, we will run a pursuit race where the slowest boats set off first pursued by the faster boats setting off later. The race will last an hour and the winner will be the person who has sailed furthest. Although the start times will be based on the QMSC handicaps for the boats being sailed, we will add in our own Saturday Club additional handicaps to see if we can even the results up and get everyone finishing at the same point on the lake. The start will be from the shore and the course will be box shaped to keep it simple. If the wind is too strong to make this form of racing enjoyable, then we will do a time trial instead. The plan for the day will be explained at the briefing when we meet at 10:00, with the racing starting at 11:00 and finishing at 12:00. There will be a table booked for us to have an end of season lunch together after sailing (around 12:30 to 13:00), with prizes for those winning the racing, so do plan to stay on for that if you can - or indeed just come up for lunch if you wish.
I would like an assistant to help me set the course, count down the starts and record the results - all easy to do, no previous experience necessary. If you are interested in coming up but don't want to sail, let me know if you can help.
Over the winter we have decided to schedule one Saturday Club a month and based on the forecast in the week before decide whether it is likely that conditions will be favourable for sailing. The aim will be to get everyone afloat who comes up and wants to go out but there will not be any theme or racing, we will keep it very simple. If the conditions dont look good we may decide to meet anyway for a coffee and a chat - and maybe cover some sailing related topics.
Dates for your calendars are 7th December, 4th January, 8th February and 15th March. Fortnightly Saturday Clubs will then resume on 29th March and will run through to end of November again.
Hope you can make it this Saturday and to see many of you up at the Club, out on the water or at lunch.
